In 2004, ICF Past President Barbara Walton, MCC, initiated conversations on the global ICF Board of Directors about creating the ICF Foundation. The objectives and purposes for the Foundation were to be "organized exclusively for education, research and charitable purposes."
Notable dates in Foundation history
2004: ICF Past President Steve Mitten, MCC, generously donated his book “Marketing Essentials for Coaches”, directing all the proceeds to support the Foundation's efforts. Based on the financial documentation, an amount of $27,238 USD has been generated by the sales of Mitten’s book.
March 2005: The ICF submitted an application to the Internal Revenue Service to recognize a newly established Foundation as a tax exempt organization under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
April 2006: The ICF received the IRS determination letter, informing that the Foundation has been granted the tax-exempt status. The effective date of the exemption is March 21, 2005.
May 2007: ICF responded to a request for proposals from a major humanitarian organization to “provide telephonic coaching." Compensation from this effort was directed to the ICF Foundation.
January 2008: The Board authorized the Executive Committee to establish the Board of Trustees for the Foundation, including developing the job descriptions and charge for the Board.
June 2010: Foundation announces six inaugural grant recipients. Read press release (MSWord).
