Mind, Body & Spirit
Imagine enriching your coaching practice with resources, skills and age-old wisdom that goes outside and beyond the boundaries of your current thinking and deeply connects and aligns you and your clients to their deepest and highest selves. In the Body, Mind & Spirit (MBS) area of focus we focus on speakers who embody and live these passions and are able to engage ALL of you - body, mind and spirit - while at the same time making it practical and real for you and your clients.
-Peter Barr, MCC, and Nancy Verhoeven, PCC, Chairs, Mind, Body and Spirit Education Subcommittee
  • Renowned author and speaker Dr. Richard Strozzi-Heckler, founder of the Strozzi Institute and an Aikido Master, in his two concurrent sessions, teaches how to tap into your deepest wisdom and compassion through action using the whole body.
  • Rhona Post, MCC, introduces the concept of coach as healer-both for yourself and for your clients. Post distinguishes what a real healer is and how to apply this wisdom to yourself first, and then your clients.

  • Dr. Cheryl Vermey, CPCC, ACC, shares the ancient practices and science of Yoga, the Chakras and the Koshas. This theoretical and technique-based session is guaranteed to challenge, refresh and deeply add to your coaching presence and practice.
  • Flaminia Fazi, PCC, continues the theme by accessing the wisdom of the ancient sages, their philosophies and teaching how to take the unseen and ground it in a practical coaching framework.
  • Our colleague from France, Christian Worth, PCC, the highest rated MBS speaker from last year's Montréal conference, will take you to new and deeper places through his introduction to Hara, the core and spiritual connection you can have with another being. He will show you how this ancient technique brings new meaning to powerful coaching connection.

Coaching the Whole IQ: Cultivating Trust and Faith with Your Clients
Michele McHall, MCC (USA) - View bio.

Thursday, December 3: 4 - 5:30 p.m./1600- 1730
CCEU:  .75-CC/.75-PD
This session will open with a question about "What is the Whole IQ?" Participants will engage in interactive exercises that support them to identify the access points and blocks to their Spirit, Heart, Mind, and Body intelligences, which comprise the Whole IQ. This is relevant to our coaching conversations because when our clients are stuck or unexpressed, generally one or more of these intelligences is blocked. As we coach the wholeness of energy, feelings, thoughts, and forms that each intelligence respectively brings, our clients take charge in their lives by exuding more authenticity and greater passion. There will be an exploration of a Life Artist Palette of nine colors which are contexts for developing our Whole IQ.  We will specifically focus on the colors that support our clients to cultivate trust and faith in an intentional way.

The Healer Coach-Awakening Into Our Wholeness
Rhona Post, MCC (USA) - View bio.

Thursday, December 3: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. /1100- 1230
CCEU:  1.00-CC/.25-PD/.25-OT
Coaches are asked and even required to take a stand for the client's overall mind, body and spiritual health. Our clients want to feel fully expanded, whole and complete in who they are. How do we get ourselves in shape to witness another person's suffering? What practices are available to coaches to strengthen the healer within? What does it mean to be a healer coach and what are the qualities a healer coach brings to each coaching session, are topics we will explore using the ICF Core Coaching Competencies: Centered, Presence, Active Listening, Building Trust and Awareness for your Client.

As we awaken and integrate into our wholeness, we feel more alive. By strengthening our healing capacity, we open the possibility of witnessing transformation-our own and our clients'.

You will learn how to bring more compassion and objectivity to coaching sessions. You will learn why taking a stand as a healer coach will deepen your capacity to get underneath a client's narrative to the very real emotional, spiritual, and psychological patterns that limit them.

We want to feel whole whether we are coach or client. What is the future of our coaching profession if it is not to heal the human condition for the sake of experiencing peace, love and joy?

Somatic Spirit: The Next Step in Coaching
Richard Strozzi-Heckler (USA) - View bio.

Part 1:  Saturday, December 5: 9 - 10:30 a.m./0900- 1030
CCEU:  1.25-CC/.25-PD
Part 2:  Saturday, December 5: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. / 1100- 1230
CCEU:  1.25-CC/.25 PD
Somatics is the coherence of our acting, feeling, thinking, and spiriting as it's embodied in the human form.

To be on a somatic path-a deepening into the life of the body, which is a deepening into the direct experience of life-one will ultimately find themselves engaged in matters of the Spirit. The deeper waters of awe, wonder, love, timelessness, a knowing without understanding, the sacredness of life, a direct perception of what is, and a suffering that births compassion, begin to come to the foreground of our living. The personal self becomes less central and our mutual interconnectedness becomes more obvious; the small "I" is eclipsed by a profound sense of belonging to a greater whole.

A paradox appears in that the deeper we descend into the body the less we are attached to it. We find we are many bodies. We realize we are no body. In this awareness we become more effective in how we care for others and the planet. A path of awakening and healing for ourselves, others, and the natural world becomes a sacred obligation. This service to the world is based on a shift in consciousness. Not a shift for it's own sake, although we may be drawn to it by a deep inner yearning, but in order to help individuals, communities, and nations become self-healing, self-educating, and self-generating.

In this session attendees will engage in experiential somatic practices that are two-fold. First, a set of practices in which the coach her/himself can draw on the deep streams of Spirit as it is manifested as ki, or energy. The will allow the coach to access a wisdom that is beyond the small self.

Second, the coach will learn practical ways to engage the client in the deeper conversations of spirit, purpose and skillful action. This will give the coach the confidence to come from their authentic self in helping their clients. The coach and client will then be able to go to a level of depth in which a deeper intelligence and compassion can emerge.

The Yoga of Coaching:  Applying an Ancient Science to Coaching Practice

Friday, December 4: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. / 1100- 1230
CCEU:  1.25-CC/.25-PD
Coaching from one or two dimensions is like clipping the wings of an airplane and using them as an automobile! Coaches endorse the principle of coaching the client's whole life. How do we implement this holistic practice, especially in organizational or corporate settings, where the sponsor may be focused on specific outcomes or the bottom line?

This interactive session will explore how coaches can use the ancient science and principles of Yoga, the Chakras, and the Koshas to inform and enhance coaching practice. Much of the underlying theory of coaching may be traced back to these early teachings. Exploring these principles, along with personal experience, will provide coaches with new and creative strategies in serving their clients to be the whole people they already are.

We will explore the seven Chakras: the centers of vital life energy responsible for balancing the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of being. We will examine the five Koshas: the facets of the human being that include the physical, energy, emotional, wisdom and bliss "bodies."  Finally, we will apply these and select Yoga principles, to enhance coaching practice and client outcomes through case examples. It's a powerful tool even without using the word "Yoga!"
