Renewal of Credentials
ACC Renewal
ACC credentials awarded on or after January 19, 2008 are valid for a three-year period and may be renewed by meeting the requirements listed below. Those ACC credentials that were originally scheduled to expire in December of 2007 may apply for a renewal by submitting a renewal application prior to April 30, 2008.
ACC/PCC/MCC Renewal Session
ACC, PCC and MCC renewal applications will be accepted between November 1, 2008 – December 31, 2008. All renewal applications must be post-marked by December 31, 2008. Applications should not be sent prior to November 1, 2008.
ACC, PCC and MCC credentials are valid for the three-year period following the coach's initial certification or latest renewal. A PCC or MCC credential must be renewed by December 31 of the year the credential expires. For example, a PCC or MCC awarded in 2005 must be renewed by December 31, 2008.
Requirements
A coach actively involved within the profession will have no difficulty maintaining their credential.
For all renewals:
- Submit renewal application with appropriate documentation
- Documented participation in a minimum of 40 hours of Continuing Coach Education (CCE) over the three-year period since initial certification or last renewal.
- A minimum of 24 CCE hours must directly relate to the ICF Core Competencies.
- The remaining 16 CCE hours must relate to either the ICF Core Competencies or to i) the personal development of the coach, ii) the development of the coach's practice or iii) skills or tools that are directly applicable to coaching.
For ACC renewals:
- In addition to the CCE requirements listed above, ACC renewal candidates must also submit proof of an additional 10 hours of Mentor Coahing above those hours required for thier initial certification. Please see the renewal application for details.
Continuing Coaching Education
- Individual courses which the applicant has not previously completed within an ICF Accredited Coach Training Program (ACTP). Please note: Coach training schools must apply for and be awarded CCEUs for courses not included in an ACTP.
- One time courses or seminars that have successfully met the ICF Approved CCE standards.
- Recurring courses or seminars that have successfully met the ICF Approved CCE standards. A course or seminar is considered to be a recurring course or seminar if i) the course or seminar is scheduled to occur in multiple locations within a standard calendar year; ii) the program description is identical across all locations; iii) the instructor(s) are equally qualified across all locations; and iv) the provider organization is the same across all locations.
- ICF conference breakout sessions, pre-conference and post-conference workshops that have passed the ICF Conference Committee program selection process.
- Non-ICF approved courses or seminars for which the individual applicant member can clearly prove: i) the member successfully completed the course work; and ii) there exists a direct relationship between the course objectives and the ICF Core Competencies; or iii) the course material relates to the personal development of the coach and/or the development of the coach's practice; or iv) the course content is directly applicable to coaching. The burden of proof regarding applicability to coaching rests solely with the applicant member.
The following do not qualify as Continuing Coaching Education:
- Individual and group coaching.
- Courses and seminars taught from a therapeutic perspective.
- ICF Conference keynote presentations.
- Undergraduate or post-graduate university classes unless they fall within the definition of Coach Specific Training.
